Felix Meseck (1883-1955) was a prominent German painter, graphic artist, and illustrator. Born in Danzig (now Gdańsk, Poland), he is known for his work in painting and particularly for his expressive drypoint etchings, often reflecting the emotional impact of World War I. Meseck studied at the art academies in Berlin and Königsberg under Ludwig Dettmann (painting) and Heinrich Wolff (printmaking). He was a member of the Berlin Secession, an influential art movement at the time. From 1924 to 1930, he served as a professor at the Art Academy in Weimar. While he began with painting, Meseck became especially known for his graphic works after WWI, primarily drypoints and pen and ink drawings. His art is often described as German Expressionist. Meseck gained renown as an illustrator for major literary works by authors such as Shakespeare, Goethe (Faust), Novalis, and Brentano. He contributed to leading art journals like Ganymed and created portfolios of etchings, such as 15 Kaltnadelarbeiten zu H. V. Kleist's Penthesilea.
