Rastislav Michal (1936–2022) was a renowned Czech painter, graphic artist, and illustrator. He was born in Teplice and later lived in Prague, where he died on October 28, 2022. Michal began his artistic studies in 1951 at the School of Fine Arts in Prague, where he learned various techniques including typography and bookbinding. He continued his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, studying figurative art. He was also awarded a study scholarship to Paris. His early work was classical in style but evolved into a more stylized form as he established himself as an important artist in painting, drawing, graphics, and illustration.
